Telegram is back on the Apple Watch. The messaging platform launched a brand-new native app for watchOS (Apple’s smartwatch operating system) on June 9, 2026, after years away from the smartwatch space.
If you own an Apple Watch and use Telegram, this means you can now read and send messages directly from your wrist without pulling out your phone.
What the new Telegram Apple Watch app can do
The app gives you access to your full Telegram experience on a smaller screen. You can:
- Send and receive text messages
- Send and listen to voice messages
- Share GIFs, stickers, and videos
- Share your location
- View all your conversations and contacts
To set it up, you install the app from Apple’s App Store on your watch, then scan a QR code using Telegram on your iPhone to sync everything.
Why this matters for Ghanaians thinking about smartwatches
If you’re considering buying an Apple Watch, this is another reason to lean toward Apple instead of cheaper Android smartwatch brands. The more apps that work well on your watch, the more useful it becomes. Right now, Apple’s ecosystem tends to get better app support than competitors.
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced the release on X (formerly Twitter), saying the app is “fully native,” meaning it’s built specifically for the watch, not just a shrunk-down version of the phone app. That usually means faster, smoother performance.
The original Telegram watchOS app was discontinued years ago, so this is the platform making a comeback to smartwatches after a long absence.
Should you care?
If you’re a heavy Telegram user and already own an Apple Watch, download it. It’s free and saves you reaching for your phone for quick messages.
If you’re shopping for a smartwatch and Telegram is important to you, this is one more vote in Apple’s corner. The Apple Watch ecosystem keeps getting richer with app support, which justifies its higher price tag compared to budget Android watches.
The app is available now on the Apple App Store.
