Samsung is about to announce its new Galaxy Z Flip 8 foldable phone, and a leak just revealed a fix for the biggest complaint people have about these phones: the annoying crease down the middle of the screen.
Here’s what you need to know and what it means for you.
What’s the crease problem?
When you fold a phone in half, the screen bends. That bend creates a visible line, or crease, in the middle. It’s not just ugly — it can feel rough under your finger and sometimes bugs people while they’re using the phone.
This crease is one of the main reasons many Ghanaians have held off from buying foldables. You spend a lot of money on a phone, and that visible line feels unfinished.
What’s Samsung fixing?
According to leaked information from a tipster, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will use a new hinge design that makes the crease barely visible. Samsung calls this a “crease-free design structure.”
Is it completely gone? Probably not. But leaks suggest it will be much less noticeable than on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 (the current model).
What else is changing?
The phone will also be slightly lighter (180 grams instead of 188 grams) and a tiny bit thinner. Think of it like shaving a few grams off a can of soft drink — you notice it’s lighter, but not dramatically different.
Samsung is also bumping up the price, which is typical when new features and materials arrive. You should expect to pay more than the Z Flip 7 cost when it launched.
What’s NOT changing (and that matters)
The camera and battery are staying the same. So is the charging speed, which remains at 25W — and that’s actually falling behind other phones, which now charge at 45W or faster.
This means if you own a Z Flip 7, the main upgrade is really just the crease fix and a slightly lighter phone. It might not be worth upgrading unless the crease genuinely bothers you.
When can you see it?
Samsung will officially announce the Galaxy Z Flip 8 sometime in July 2026. Expect pricing and full specs then.
What you should do now
If you’re thinking about buying a foldable phone and the crease has been holding you back, wait for the Z Flip 8 reviews in July. Tech reviewers will show you exactly how good (or not) the crease fix really is in daily use.
If you already have a Z Flip 7, there’s no urgent reason to upgrade unless you really hate the crease and don’t mind paying extra for a lighter phone.
