Apple is working on a feature that could save Ghanaian iPhone users from carrying around paper loyalty cards, event tickets, and gym membership passes. The company is developing a “Create a Pass” tool for its Wallet app in iOS 27, according to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Here’s what matters: instead of waiting for businesses to officially add their services to Apple Wallet, you’ll be able to digitize almost anything yourself, right on your phone.
What You’ll Actually Be Able to Do
The feature will let you create digital passes for event tickets, loyalty cards, gift cards, and membership passes (think gym cards or library passes). You get two ways to start: tap the “+” button in the Wallet app, or use the same place where you add credit cards.
The clever part: if a business gives you a QR code but hasn’t built official Apple Wallet support, you can point your iPhone camera at that QR code and generate your own digital pass from it. No waiting for partnerships between Apple and local vendors.
You’ll also customize how each pass looks. Change colors, upload images, adjust text — tailor it to whatever makes sense for you.
Three Template Options to Start
Apple is testing three design templates:
- Standard (orange): the default option for most passes
- Membership (blue): for gyms, libraries, and access-based venues
- Event (purple): for movie tickets, sports events, and shows
Why This Matters for You
Right now, if a Ghanaian shop, cinema, or event organizer doesn’t have a deal with Apple, you’re stuck with a paper ticket or printed card. iOS 27’s custom passes close that gap. You get the convenience of digital storage without depending on official business partnerships.
This isn’t entirely new technology. Google Wallet has allowed user-created passes for years, and third-party apps already exist for this. Apple is simply catching up to user demand.
What You Should Watch
iOS 27 hasn’t launched yet, so this feature is still being tested. Apple typically releases new iOS versions in September each year. When it does arrive, the custom pass feature should roll out to all compatible iPhones automatically.
For now, keep an eye on your iPhone Settings > General > Software Update when iOS 27 becomes available. If you use physical loyalty cards, event tickets, or membership passes regularly, this could genuinely simplify your daily life.
