Cyber Tips with JBKlutse – October 2, 2025

Mobile Money has made life easier for millions of Ghanaians. You can send, receive, or pay bills in seconds. But scammers are always watching — waiting for one careless moment.

Today on our Cyber Tips with JBKlutse series, we shall be talking about Mobile Money safety and how to outsmart fraudsters who want to steal your hard-earned cash.

From fake calls to phishing texts, mobile money scams have become smarter. They often pretend to be from your network operator, saying things like:

  • “Your account has been blocked.”
  • “You’ve won a promotion prize.”
  • “Send money to reverse a mistaken transfer.”

Sounds familiar? That’s how they get you.

How to Stay Safe

  • Never share your MoMo PIN with anyone — not even a supposed “customer care” agent.
  • Ignore calls or texts that pressure you to act fast. MTN, Vodafone, and AirtelTigo never call to ask for your PIN.
  • Use your own phone when doing transactions — don’t let strangers “help.”
  • Enable notifications so you can track every transaction instantly.

If you ever get a suspicious message, call your provider’s official helpline. Don’t respond or forward the message — just report it.

The Ghanaian Reality

According to Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority, MoMo fraud remains one of the top reported cybercrimes. Scammers exploit trust and speed. They know most people act before thinking.

Your quick pause could save your money. Always verify before you act.

Stay CyberSmart

Your Mobile Money wallet is like your bank account — guard it with the same seriousness. Keep your PIN secret. Double-check every transaction. And remember: No telecom operator will ever ask for your PIN.

Have you ever received a suspicious MoMo message or call? Share your story or tip in the comments. Let’s help others stay alert.
