After a long wait, Electronic Arts sports popularly known as EA sports released the FIFA 20 electronic football game. The game happens to be the 27th edition of the FIFA game since its initial release in 1993.

The game happens to be one of the most popular franchises in the world and according to venturebeat.com, the soccer sim drew 45 million unique players on PC, PlayStation 4, and Switch for both FIFA 18 and FIFA 19 as at May this year.

The game can be played on PS4, Xbox One and PC – and a watered-down Switch version.

The 27th edition comes as an upgrade to past editions with lots of changes and introductions, with the most significant introduction being the volta football mode. But what other intriguing facts do you not know about the new FIFA 20 electronic game? Let’s find out

Cover stars

There are three cover stars for the 27th edition of FIFA’s franchise but with the main star being Eden Hazard of Real Madrid Sporting Club.

He happens to be the cover star for the standard edition while his current manager at Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, is the cover star for the ultimate edition and Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk the cover star for the champions edition.

Eden Hazard did not just take Cristiano Ronaldo’s jersey number at Real Madrid but also took over the latter’s place as the cover star for FIFA ‘s franchise. After having a fruitful season with Chelsea by helping them secure a top-four spot in the premier league and also a Europa League trophy, he was voted by fans to become the cover star of the standard edition of FIFA 20.

Eden Hazard thus joins a tall list of talented players who have over the years been voted as the cover star of the standard edition of FIFA ‘s franchise. Players like Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund, Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus have all been cover stars before.

FIFA 20 Ultimate edition cover star

Juventus and Real Madrid legend and now Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, was made the cover star of the FIFA 20 Ultimate edition. After an illustrious playing career, Zinedine Zidane managed to win three consecutive champions league titles with Real Madrid to set an unprecedented record in the champions league.

FIFA 20 Champions edition cover star

Liverpool’s stalwart defender, Virgil Van Dijk, who was voted the Uefa men’s player of the year recently was named the cover star of the FIFA 20 champions edition.

EA’s sports succinctly described Van Dijk as being, “Blessed with a dream combination of strength, height, defensive proficiency, and technical ability.

Van Dijk is one of the most popular defenders in FIFA Ultimate Team. His displays on the pitch for Liverpool saw him named in the FUT Team of the Year for the first time in FUT 19, as well as picking up the PFA Player of the Year Award.”

FIFA 20 Volta mode

The Volta football mode is the latest introduction by EA sports into FIFA franchise. The mode which is played on the streets has its own rules which are quite different from usual gameplay rules.

According to FIFA 20’s creative director Matt Prior, the addition of street football was essential since it was “one of the most-asked-for features” from those who played the game.

He said, “Almost all of our consumers never have their first kick of a football in a 11v11 game,” Prior told Goal.

“The roots of football start in the backyard, down at the park. It’s a part of football we haven’t previously had in the game, so we’re super excited to bring that aspect to FIFA.”

The producer of Volta football, Jeff Antwi, has also elaborated on the Volta football mode.

“It’s a return to street football for the FIFA franchise and we’re really excited to be in places where street football is rooted.

“Authenticity, creativity and culture are all things we wanted to bring to Volta.”

Best rated team

Barcelona Football Club in Spain leads the ladder as the most rated football team in FIFA 20. The ratings are done by taking into considerations the efficiency of the various departments of a team, the defence, the midfield and the attack to get an overall rating.

Barcelona sits joint top with Manchester City from the Premier League and  Real Madrid from the La Liga Santander with an overall rating of 86. Bayern Munich from the Bundesliga, Paris Saint Germain from the Ligue 1 Conforama and Juventus from the Serie A Tim follow with an overall rating of 85 each.

Best rated players

Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Argentina Football Club topped the ratings with an overall rating of 94 to become the most rated player in FIFA 20. His dribbling attribute was rated at an incredible 96, his passing and shooting attribute 92 each, his pace 87 and his defence and physicality attribute at 39 and 66 respectively.

He is followed by his fierce rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has an overall rating of 93 followed by Eden Hazard and Neymar with 91 each.
