Social media came alive on Twitter last week when Vodafone tweeted the hashtag #VodafoneXPleaseSign. It became the trending hashtag for the day as audience engaged brutally with it. For a moment, everyone thought Vodafone Ghana was going to YouTube to its Vodafone X packages. This was the obvious choice of the masses from my perspective after counting some of the tweets.
This week, Vodafone has surprised myself, and many others who might have thought YouTube was the way forward. The early early hours of Monday,a tweet with the hashtag #VodafoneXSignsSnapchat got the attention of most youth in Ghana especially those sign onto the Vodafone X package. There was much titillation as both subscribers and non subscribers inundated twitter with tweets that both expressed their excitement, and also to ridicule the efforts by MTN Ghana for introducing MTN Pulse as a counter offer to Vodafone X.
Just in case you have no idea what snapchat is, let me give you a clue; Snapchat is a fun messaging application for sharing moments. You can take a photo or a video, add a caption or doodle, and send it to a friend or add it to your Story to share with some or all of your friends. Friends can view Snaps for up to 10 seconds, and then it disappear according to pocket-lint.com.
Now with GHC35: new and existing users on the X package can enjoy free WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat. Users also get 3.5GB data on the X-treme plus package.
With the newest addition of snapchat to the X packages; this is the biggest deal in the data warfare considering earlier last week the announcement by telecommunication giant MTN in lauching MTN PULSE
Here is the official tweet announcing the signing of snapchat to the X-treme package
