Samsung is about to tell you when your Galaxy phone will get its next big software update. The company plans to share a roadmap for One UI 8.5, its latest operating system, sometime soon — likely in May 2026.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy phone in Ghana, this matters because it tells you exactly when your device will receive new features, security fixes, and performance improvements.
What is One UI 8.5 and why wait for a roadmap?
One UI is Samsung’s custom Android skin — think of it as Samsung’s customised version of Google’s Android operating system with Samsung’s own apps and design tweaks. Version 8.5 is the newest version, and Galaxy owners have been asking when they’ll get it.
Samsung has been quiet about release dates, frustrating users. But according to a Samsung support representative, the company will publish a detailed roadmap in the Samsung Members app (a built-in app on Galaxy phones) showing which devices get the update first and when.
“Due to the many variables involved until the final update, the relevant departments have stated that it is difficult to provide advance notice,” Samsung’s support team said, explaining why they held back details until now.
When will Ghana get One UI 8.5?
The global rollout is expected to start May 6, 2026, with most markets receiving the update within a week. However, Samsung doesn’t push updates to all devices at once. Instead, it stages the rollout — meaning newer Galaxy phones get it first, and older models wait longer.
South Korea gets priority now (Samsung switched from Germany recently). Other major markets follow days or weeks later. Ghana’s timing depends on your carrier and which Galaxy model you own, but you should expect the update between mid-May and early June 2026.
Which Galaxy phones get it first?
Samsung hasn’t published the full eligibility list yet, but typically Galaxy S-series flagships (S25, S24, etc.) get updates first, followed by Galaxy A-series phones, then older models. The exact order will be in the roadmap when Samsung releases it.
What to do now
Open the Samsung Members app on your Galaxy phone and check the Notice section starting in early May. You’ll find the official roadmap there with your device’s expected update date. If you don’t see One UI 8.5 by June 15, check your phone’s Settings > About Phone > Software Update to trigger a manual check — sometimes it takes a few extra days to reach individual devices.
Keep your phone charged and on Wi-Fi when the update is ready, as One UI updates typically require 500 MB to 1.5 GB of storage space.
