What will you say if I ask you what are your immediate goals in life? Wait! I know. You will say you want to earn a decent living, take care of your family, become independent and perhaps do something for others in the world. I am sure you did not count your health here.
Sadly, this is the case with all of us. While running behind countless materialistic things, we somehow let our bodies down. It’s high time we start taking care of it and follow some healthy tips. Start with going on a healthy diet regime.
Remember your diet must be healthy in all ways. When most people realize they need to lose weight, they follow a crash diet. This unhealthy way deprives your body of several important nutrients and as a result, you gain the weight back as soon as you stop dieting. If you are not sure how to go about a healthy way, here’s how.
1. A healthy first meal
You must have heard ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’. This is absolutely correct. Most people have this concept that skipping breakfast will help in losing weight. Let me tell you; it doesn’t.
Most of the time, skipping breakfast results in eating more later in the day. It is a good practice to have a healthy first meal because your body starts metabolizing early.
2. Stay hydrated
A healthy diet is incomplete without plenty of water intake. Drinking lots of water will help your body flush out toxins. So, give your day a kick start with a glass of warm water, lime, and honey. Where drinking water is incredibly healthy, it also makes you feel full.
3. The Green tea effect
Green tea is very effective in burning down fats, especially the stubborn belly fat and giving a boost to your metabolism. Rather than drinking your regular tea and coffee, try green tea to experience its benefits.
4. Take a break once in a while
Cheat days are quite common among health and fitness enthusiasts. You follow your diet strictly for the whole week and take a break for one day. On this day you can eat whatever your heart desires- pizzas, burgers, chocolates, ice creams.
This keeps your diet from becoming boring. Not eating your favorite food can demotivate you to continue. So, it’s best you take a break once on the weekend. But, remember to watch over your portions.
5. Add more proteins
Protein is one of the major components that encourages fat burning. It also strengthens muscles, which in turn encourages fat burning. Protein-rich food such as eggs, cheese, and yoghurt are quite easy to include in your meals.
6. Eat small meals frequently
Instead of taking in 3 major meals, try eating small quantities at regular intervals in the day. This will make you feel less hungry, and as a result, your tendency to overeat will considerably reduce.
A fruit in between your meals is a good idea. You can also go for some other healthy snacking alternative. Eating frequently also keeps your metabolism humming all day. This helps in losing weight.
7. Eat your dinner early
Experts say that the 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. is the best window for eating. Wrapping up your meal early in the evening (at least 2 hours before sleep) will help you in weight loss. If you eat before getting into your bed, the food doesn’t get metabolized effectively because you are about to sleep.
Late-night munching is extremely bad for your health. Also, the calories you take in during night are not required by your body, because all you are going to do is sleep. Ultimately, these calories end up as fat in your body.
8. Avoid snacking on unhealthy items
As soon as you start this diet regime, clean up your kitchen and throw away all processed and junk food. It’s true sometimes you feel like munching something. Replace your junk intake with low-calorie healthier snacks.
It is generally better to avoid snacking while watching TV or when sitting with friends. These are the times you tend to eat more. Try eating more and more fruits and vegetables. Limiting your salt and sugar intake is also important if you really want to benefit from this healthy diet regime.
Along with a healthy diet, exercising can do wonders for losing weight. Don’t resort to short cuts in the temptation to reduce weight in a short span of time – because practically there are no shortcuts.
