Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch 5 is getting more expensive. A new leak shows the smartwatch will cost roughly $50 more than previous versions when it launches later this year — and that matters for Ghanaian buyers who import these devices.
How much will the Pixel Watch 5 cost?
The base model (41mm with Wi-Fi only) will start at $399, up from $349 on the previous generation. If you want the larger 45mm size, expect $429. Add cellular (LTE) and prices jump to $499 for the 41mm and $529 for the 45mm.
For context: that $399 entry price puts the Pixel Watch 5 in the same ballpark as Apple’s Watch Series 11. It’s also $50 more than Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8.
Why is the price going up?
Component costs are rising across the tech industry. Companies are packing more RAM (memory) into devices to power AI features, and that’s driving up manufacturing costs. Google is raising prices on its Pixel phones too, but slightly offsetting that with more storage.
What does this mean for Ghana?
If you buy imported tech through retailers or bring devices in yourself, you’ll pay more in cedis when these prices convert. Higher US prices mean higher local prices, and with import duties and retailer margins, expect significant markups over the base dollar amount.
The Pixel Watch 5 likely won’t be available directly through official channels in Ghana, so you’re looking at third-party importers.
