Google CEO, Sundar Pichai is now the CEO of Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, DeepMind, Sidewalk Labs, Waymo, Calico, etc.
This comes after the stepping down of the co-founders of Google itself, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were Alphabet’s CEO and President, respectively. In a joint founders’ letter from the co-founders, the duo made it clear as to why they stepped down:
“…Alphabet and Google no longer need two CEOs and a President. Going forward, Sundar will be the CEO of both Google and Alphabet. He will be the executive responsible and accountable for leading Google, and managing Alphabet’s investment in our portfolio of Other Bets.”
Sundar Pichai has been working with Google for closely 15 years now. He became the CEO of Google in 2015. He also responded to the joint founders’ letter from Larry and Sergey assuring Googlers that:
“…this transition won’t affect the Alphabet structure or the work we do day to day. I will continue to be very focused on Google and the deep work we’re doing to push the boundaries of computing and build a more helpful Google for everyone. At the same time, I’m excited about Alphabet and its long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology.”
As he is now the boss of Alphabet, we think Google proper may have a new CEO so that Sundar can focus on the workload of Alphabet, though Larry and Sergey said he’ll be the boss of both Google and the parent.
