Ghana engages US and Canada on 2026 FIFA World Cup Visa plans

2026 Fifa World Cup,2026 World Cup Visa Ghana Ghana has begun formal discussions with the United States Embassy and the Canadian High Commission to create special visa arrangements for Ghanaian football fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The meetings, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, follow the Black Stars’ qualification for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

High-Level Engagements to Ease Fan Travel

The Ghanaian delegation included Technical Advisor to the Minister for Sports, Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah, GFA President and CAF Vice President Kurt Okraku, and senior directors from both the Foreign Affairs and Sports Ministries.

The US delegation was led by Acting Ambassador Rolf Olson, while the Canadian side was headed by Acting High Commissioner Dennis Roussel.

Hon. Ablakwa said the talks focused on developing a clear roadmap to streamline visa processing for Ghanaian supporters, sports officials, and players.

“Our goal is to ensure mutual understanding on expectations and requirements, improve coordination, and enhance visa facilitation,” he said. “We are also working toward special arrangements for fans and teams outside the regular visa process.”

Multiple-Entry Visa Policy Brings Relief

The discussions also acknowledged the recent US policy change reversing single-entry visa restrictions — a timely move for Ghanaian fans. The update allows multiple entries, making it easier for supporters to attend games across all three host countries and re-enter the US without reapplying for a visa.

Hon. Ablakwa described this as a positive development that will “make travel during the World Cup smoother for Ghanaian fans.”

The Minister also expressed appreciation to GFA President Kurt Okraku for presenting the Black Stars replica jerseys to the diplomatic partners, symbolizing Ghana’s unity and readiness for the global stage.

Next Stop: Mexico

Hon. Ablakwa confirmed that a similar engagement will be held with the Mexican Embassy on Friday, completing Ghana’s consultations with all three host nations.

The initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader plan to enhance sports diplomacy and ensure fans and officials receive full logistical and consular support during the World Cup.

As the countdown to 2026 begins, these proactive diplomatic efforts aim to make Ghana’s presence at the tournament both strong and well-coordinated — on and off the pitch.
