Wave-2 Analytics Limited, an analytics startup based in Ghana, is getting ready to organise a data science program in Ghana. The first edition of the Ghana Data Science Summit 2019 is going to take place from April 25 to April 27. The event will happen at the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.

The event is themed, “The Promise of Data Science for Economic Transformation”. It aims to increase the awareness and efforts in the data science and analytics fields. This also includes data mining, machine learning, etc. in the country.

It is being sponsored by Google, Deep Learning Indaba and Microsoft. Other tech-oriented organisations are supporting this event. They include BACE GROUP, Python Ghana, and the Dept. of Statistics and Actuarial Science (University of Ghana).

The organisers of the event issued a statement in Accra concerning the summit. It said the summit involves a series of lectures, panel discussions, and training sessions (tutorials) on a few subjects. They include Data Management, Business Analytics, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.

Also from the statement, the event will discuss the best practices concerning data collection and management as well as machine intelligence. These topics would be discussed by accomplished experts to ensure successful analytical product delivery.

Though participants need to apply to get selected, the summit is open to all. That includes students, researchers, industry practitioners and leaders, anyone interested in learning and applying data science.

Speakers for the summit

Some experts confirmed to lecture at the summit include: Delali Agbenyegah (Director, Data Science & Analytics, Express, Columbus OH, USA); Darlington Akogo (Founder and Director of Artificial Intelligence, MinoHealth AI Labs, Ghana); and Danielle Belgrave, PhD (Microsoft Research, Cambridge, UK).

Others are: Richard Ackon, Ghana;  Moustapha Cisse, PhD (Head of Google AI Center, Accra, Ghana); Ayorkor Korsah, PhD (Head of Department of Computer Science, Ashesi University, Ghana); Shakir Mohamed, PhD (Research Scientist, DeepMind, UK); and John Aidoo (Data Analytics Manager, Central Insurance Companies, USA).
