Facebook Dating introduces AI Assistant and Meet Cute feature

If you’re tired of endlessly swiping on dating apps, Facebook thinks it has the fix. The company has announced two new features for Facebook Dating — a Dating Assistant and Meet Cute — designed to make finding matches less stressful and more fun.

Tackling Swipe Fatigue

Swipe fatigue is real. Most dating apps push users to scroll through endless profiles, but Facebook says it wants to help people connect faster and more meaningfully. According to the company, hundreds of thousands of young adults in the US and Canada (ages 18–29) create Facebook Dating profiles every month, and matches among that group are up 10% year-over-year.

Now, with these two new tools, users can cut down on swipes and focus more on actual conversations.

Your New Dating Assistant

The Dating Assistant is built right into the Facebook Dating experience. Think of it as a personalized matchmaker that helps refine your search based on what really matters to you.

  • You can type in prompts like “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech” and it will recommend tailored matches.
  • It can also give dating ideas or tips to improve your profile.
  • The feature will appear in the Matches tab, and it’s rolling out gradually in the US and Canada.

Unlike traditional filters that focus on height, age, or education, the assistant leans into interests, lifestyle, and unique preferences, giving users a more authentic way to connect.

Meet Cute: A Surprise Matchmaker

For anyone overwhelmed by too many choices, Meet Cute simplifies the process. Instead of scrolling through dozens of profiles, the system automatically pairs you with one match chosen by Facebook’s algorithm.

  • You can either start chatting right away or unmatch to move on.
  • Matches will drop once a week to start, though Facebook is exploring more frequent options.
  • You can opt out of Meet Cute at any time.

This “surprise match” format is meant to bring some excitement back into online dating and help people discover connections outside their usual search filters.

Free and Fun

Unlike some dating apps that charge for advanced features, Facebook Dating remains completely free. With the addition of AI-powered assistance and simplified matching, the company hopes to attract more young people who want to meet new people without paying premium subscription fees.

Facebook says it will continue adding features to evolve the platform, aiming to make online dating “easy, fun, and free.”
