So I have sampled these methods that will help you consume less data with your Android device.

How to consume less data on Android

Data usage is how much data your device uploads or downloads using mobile data. To make sure that you’re not using too much data on your data plan, you can check and change your data usage.

Data Saving Mode

On Android 7.0 and above, you can automatically activate the data saving mode by following these steps.

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & Internet
  3. Proceed to tap Data usage
  4. Tap on Data saver.
  5. Turn Data saver on.

When data saver mode is on, you’ll see the Data saver Data saver icon in your status bar and a notification at the top of your device’s Settings app.

Set mobile data usage warning or limit

This enables you to screen how much data you’re utilizing, enabling you to postpone bandwidth-intensive tasks when on a metered connection.

You also can set a warning to alert you when your device has used a certain amount of mobile data.

To set a mobile data usage warning:

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & Internet Data usage.
  3. Tap Mobile data usage Settings.
  4. Tap Data warning.
  5. Enter a number. To switch between megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB), tap the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  6. Tap Set.

When your usage reaches the level you picked, you’ll get a notification.

You can set a limit to automatically turn off mobile data when your device has used a certain amount of mobile data.

Note: Some features won’t work when mobile data is turned off.

To set a data usage limit:

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & Internet and then Data usage.
  3. Tap Mobile data usage and then Settings Settings.
  4. If it’s not already on, turn on Set data limit. Read the on-screen message and tap Ok.
  5. Tap Data limit.
  6. Enter a number. To switch between megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB), tap the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  7. Tap Set.

When you reach your limit and your data automatically turns off:

  • You’ll get a notification.
  • To turn mobile data back on, follow the steps above and turn off Set data limit.

Alternatively, you can discipline yourself by turning your data on and off depending on the time you need it. If you think any of these methods won’t work for you, consider getting a third-party app.
