ChatGPT default model accuracy — ChatGPT's new default model is more factual and better at personalization

OpenAI just made ChatGPT smarter by default. Starting today, everyone using ChatGPT gets a new model called GPT-5.5 Instant — and it’s built to be more accurate and less annoying.

What changed in ChatGPT’s new default model

The biggest change: fewer made-up facts. OpenAI tested GPT-5.5 Instant and found it produces 52.5 percent fewer hallucinated claims (that’s when AI invents false information) and 37.3 percent fewer inaccurate statements when users flag errors. If you’ve ever asked ChatGPT a question and gotten a confident-sounding but completely wrong answer, this matters.

The new model also talks less. It’s supposed to give you direct answers without rambling, ask fewer unnecessary follow-up questions, and use fewer emojis cluttering your screen. Think of it as ChatGPT learning to be more efficient.

Personalization that actually works

GPT-5.5 Instant is faster at searching through your uploaded files, your Gmail messages, and past ChatGPT conversations to give you personalized responses. That means you won’t need to repeat yourself as much.

There’s also a new feature called memory sources. This shows you what information ChatGPT used to personalize its answer — and you can delete or update it if it’s outdated or wrong. “You remain in control,” OpenAI says, and your memories aren’t shared if you share a chat with someone else.

Who gets it and when

GPT-5.5 Instant is rolling out to everyone starting today. Plus and Pro subscribers get the personalization features first, with free users getting access in the coming weeks. The memory sources feature arrives “soon” for everyone on web and mobile.

Why this matters for Ghanaians

If you use ChatGPT to research school projects, learn online, write job applications, or ask health questions, accuracy matters. A model that hallucinates less means you’re less likely to confidently repeat false information in an exam or interview.

The personalization boost also helps if you’re managing multiple tasks — like tracking client emails, notes from meetings, or research documents. ChatGPT will remember context without you pasting it in every time.

What to do now: Start using the new default ChatGPT today. If you’re a free user, check back in the coming weeks for the full personalization features. And if ChatGPT gives you information for something important, still cross-check it — no AI is perfect.
