Data recovery processes are used to recover the data which got accidentally deleted from any storage media including optical drives and solid state drives. Since there are sophisticated recovery software recovering your deleted files has been made easy without you being a computer expert. According to UK statistics released in 2016, most instances of data loss are caused due to human error and not any external reasons. Below are 6 important things you might not have known about file recovery…
1. Data recovery from a logical disk failure is much easier than physical failure
In logical disk failure, you will not be able to access the disk at all but the system will detect your device as a storage device. File corruption, registry issues, address array problems and abrupt OS failure or shutdown can lead to logical disk failure. But in this case, the internal structure of the crashed disk remains intact and the data recovery with any recovery software possibility is almost 100% sure. That means as long as the file allocation table is intact, data recovery is easy. Physical disk failure refers to the actual physical, mechanical or electronic failure of one or more components of the hard disk. This makes data recovery difficult to almost impossible in extreme cases.
2. Permanently deleted data is not actually deleted
Did you know how a data recovery software work? Even the permanently deleted data is not actually deleted. They are just made void of their address and they continue to exist on the disk. These bits and pieces of unaddressed data can later be scanned for using a data recovery software and consolidated into a readable file.
3. Data Recovery is possible from any and every device including iPhone and Andriod Phone
It’s possible but it’s difficult and will take a good amount of money. So you have to take a call if you need to recover the data or not. Android phone needs rooting before data recovery software can act on it. Similarly, in most cases, an iPhone requires jailbreaking. Data recovery from other storage media like the Hard disk drive, Solid state device, USB Flash Drive, External hard drive, Memory Cards, Optical drives like CDs or DVDs and Backup drive are quite easier.
4. Avoid the FREEZING technique
Disk driving freezing used to be a last-resort technique to recover the most important files. The disadvantage is that this method erases data from the disk and makes it more irrecoverable once performed. You may or may not recover data in this case but if you attempt this technique is for certain permanent data loss.
5. Data Recovery vs Data Repair – Both are actually different
Though data recovery and data repair are used by people interchangeably, they are actually different. Data loss is about files getting deleted, formatted or accidentally moved off. Data corruption refers to the file getting impaired such that subsequent programs cannot use it or read it. Data recovery is done for Data Loss and Data repair is done for Data corruption. Of course, most file recovery software has both capabilities and the algorithm used for both are very much related.
6. Limitations of Data Recovery
No data recovery software will guarantee you 100% possibility. It all depends on the exact circumstance in which the file got lost or corrupt. A file which is accidentally deleted can be easily recovered if it was not over-written. On the other hand, if the storage device is physically damaged file recovery chances are less. In other cases like stored location missing, very old files, files are overwritten, file header corrupted by virus or malware etc the file recovery is still possible but very difficult.
