“I swear to God as my witness: we have no reason to steal your data,” Mr. Blewett declared. “My bonus is determined by the revenue. If I steal your data, I can’t declare it, I will never get a bonus.” He added.

Mr. Blewett attributed data depletion to improved network performance, which leads to higher data consumption. He explained that streaming platforms automatically adjust video quality based on network strength, resulting in faster data usage.

The MTN CEO also highlighted the company’s strict auditing processes, which ensure transparency in billing. “We are independently audited,” he stated. “If there was something wrong with our billing, our auditors would never pass our financials.”

Mr. Blewett acknowledged many customers’ frustration when their data runs out faster than expected. However, he reassured users that data depletion is not a case of telecom companies stealing data, but rather a reflection of evolving mobile habits and improved network performance.

In a rare moment of relatability, Mr. Blewett revealed that he, too, understands what it’s like from a consumer perspective. “I know how it feels because I’ve been a customer as well,” he said.

MTN Ghana assures its customers that it prioritizes transparency and fairness in its billing practices. The company remains committed to providing reliable and efficient services to its users.

Meanwhile, Mr. Blewett has also clarified that scrapping the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) immediately is not feasible due to regulatory requirements. Speaking at MTN House in Accra, he emphasized that official instructions are necessary before making changes and therefore has pleaded with consumers to be patience with the process.
