“Soon you’ll be able to combine the two seamlessly and share what you’re listening to in a Snap [story].” This was Spotify announcing that it is now going to allow users to share Spotify music to the Snapchat platform.
Exciting, isn’t it? Spotify users now have the opportunity to share their favourite music (and podcasts) with their friends. The music streaming platform now has support for sharing a song, artist profile, playlist, and podcast.
Sharing music to Snapchat, users can share directly to their friends or to their Snapchat Story. Other social platforms like Facebook’s Instagram already have this feature. WhatsApp, Twitter, and Facebook Messenger are also already in the pool.
As long as you got the Snapchat and Spotify mobile apps installed on the same device, the Snapchat option will appear in Spotify’s share menu. When you choose to share the currently playing audio to Snapchat, it (i.e. Snapchat) will automatically create a snap that includes song info and the full album art for the currently playing track.
This can be edited and then sent to individual Snapchat friends or to your story. Spotify users can share individual songs, albums, playlists, or podcasts.
If a friend receives the shared Spotify music, they can just swipe up or tap the context card to listen to the received music or podcast.
In addition to the simple sharing music with friends, the new Spotify feature will help make it possible for artists on Spotify and their teams to promote their music to Snapchat, which can boast of about 203 million daily users. Excitingly for Spotify artists, most of Snapchat’s 203 million daily users fall within the desired age bracket, i.e., from teens to the young adult demographic that Spotify’s artists hope to reach.
How to share Spotify music to Snapchat
This is how users are going to share music from Spotify to Snapchat.
- Tap the “share” menu (three dots on the right of the screen) while you are listening to any song, album, artist, or podcast.
- Select “Snapchat” from the dropdown list.
- Snapchat will open a new Snap with the full album art included.
- Edit and send—whether to a few people or to your Story!
These are the steps to follow if a friend sends you a Snap with a song, playlist, artist profile, or podcast rec included. You can start streaming with a few quick steps:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the context card with song, artist, playlist, or podcast info.
- Spotify will open and play away!
If you do not have the Spotify app yet, you can download it from the company’s website.
As at the moment, Spotify has not rolled out the feature yet. It, however, did not say when the feature is coming. The only thing the music streamer said was users to “look out for the integration, rolling out soon across iOS and Android devices.”
Obviously, Spotify is doing to expand its listener base as it could not hit its user estimate in the second quarter of this year. It estimated to hit 8.5 million but only got 8 million. Also, it is now facing competitions from the likes of Amazon Music and Apple Music. Thus, Snapchat sharing integration will hopefully be useful.
