It is estimated that 4 out of every 10 Ghanaians who apply for UK Visa are refused. Papa Owusu Ankomah, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom revealed to JoyNews.
The High Commissioner narrated that most of these refusals are as a result of improper documentation which promotes the impression of overstaying. In other explanations, the High Commissioner stated that it is the case now because a number of Ghanaians who apply to visit the United Kingdom end up staying permanently in that country.
Papa Owusu Ankomah also revealed that The Ghana High Commission’s effort to intervene to seek a reduction of these 40% rejection rate proved futile because most Ghanaian applicants falsify their documents.
Ambassador Ankomah named factors such as forgery of documents; lack of adequate information regarding the availability of accommodation to applicants when they reach the UK; and the lack of evidence of sufficient funds to look after oneself on getting to the UK.
Other factors include the depositing of large sums of money shortly before visa which raises eyebrows; and inconsistencies in information such as the amount an applicant earns, spends and saves, not tallying.
