Sharing your location is one of the most useful tools in WhatsApp. By using this feature you can share location on WhatsApp with your contacts. In simple terms, your contacts can know your live location. But how do we do it?
This piece is going to show you the easiest way to share your live location via WhatsApp with your contacts.
We did this guide because though the feature is useful, it is not in plain sight like the option that lets you send photos or videos. So if you didn’t know that you could disclose your location to your friends without texting them where you are, you are in the right place.
Unfortunately, this useful location sharing feature is not available on WhatsApp Web. So if you were thinking of using it there, you have the heads up.
How to share location on WhatsApp
Let’s get into it already.
Who do you want to share your location with? Big bro? Best friend? You can even share your location to a group chat you’re in. Isn’t that fancy?
So you open the contact (or group chat) you want to share the location with. From the text box, you’ll see a paper clip icon. Just tap on it to reveal a menu of different things you can attach to a message. These obviously include sending a picture or any supported file.
In the menu, there’s another option labelled “Location”. Selecting it will jump you to the location screen.
For those that have never used the location feature in WhatsApp, the app will ask you to grant it permission to access the location tracking features of your mobile device. Don’t worry, this is just a one-time thing — you won’t be asked again if you grant the permission.
After granting the permission, you’ll be given a pool of locations to share. It includes your live location — where you are at the very moment — as well as recognised landmarks around.
Select the place you are or the landmark near you. You can also select how long you want to share that location, say an hour or 8. That depends on how long you’ll be there.
You can as well add a message to the location share.
Now hit the send arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen. Your location will be shared with your desired WhatsApp contact.
Lastly, you should be aware that the people you send your location to can see it without sharing theirs.
