Top executives of Vodacom, and financial services group, Absa are set to donate a third of their salaries till July, and it will go to the Solidarity Fund, which was set up to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Recall that President Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced that he would be donating to the established Solidarity Fund before calling on public officials and executives to do the same. Reacting, Vodacom has now said in a recent statement that group chief executive officer, Shameel Joosub has heeded this call and is ready to donate a third of his salary for the next three months to the Solidarity Fund.
Absa has also come out to say that its executives are willing to forego 33% of their monthly salaries for the next three months and the money will be donated to the Solidarity Fund plus the Group’s COVID-19 community support programmes.
