It’s finally going to get to that point where you will stop having to complain about the “trotro mate” running away with your change.
After the Payment System and Service Bill is passed by Parliament, you will now be able to pay your trotro fare digitally.
According to Dr Maxwell Opoku Afari, Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana, all you have to do when going to board a trotro is to ask for the mobile money number of the driver. You can then make a payment of the exact amount needed for your trotro fare.

He went further to say that Ghanaians have shown an interest in digital ways of transacting business in recent times. Again, he said that after the introduction of formal banking in Ghana over 60 years ago, only 11.4 million out of the about 28 million Ghanaians had bank accounts.
He noted however that after the institution of electronic money issuance guidelines in 2015, over 23 million people now have mobile money accounts “if we consider that as an account”.
The high use of mobile money therefore creates various opportunities to the Central Bank to expand payment methods for citizens.
