Go to the activity monitor by opening it in utility folder of the application folder. There are five different resources namely CPU, Memory, Energy, Disk and Network usage. You should pay attention to the CPU column and stop the app by clicking the “X” button for the apps consuming more power.
Manage Your Startup items
There are a lot of apps that automatically get started when your Macbook boots. You have to stop them in the login items. You can easily do this by going System Preferences>Users & Groups> and then clicking the username. Click on the login items and remove the programme that you don’t want with the startup by clicking the “-‘’button.
Turn off Visual Effects
It is important to turn off the visual effects as they consume a lot of power. Here is how to speed up the Macbook
- Go to System Prefrences> Dock
- Uncheck the following boxes- Animate opening applications, automatically hide and show the dock.
- Minimize the window and change genie effect to Scale effect.
Whenever you install the app, they come with permissions. These can be read, write and execute ability. Over the time these permissions get change results in slowing down your Macbook. To repair the disk permissions go to Application> Utilities and then choose the startup disk. Click the first aid tab and repair the disk permissions for the inconsistent permissions.

Open the application folder and sort the app by size having the largest app on the top. If you have the large size applications and you are not using it then it’s time to delete them completely. In case, you delete the important app then you can again download them from the Apple application store. But make sure you have license key if you have bought the apps from the developer.
Close the Unused Widgets
Widgets also occupy the little bit of memory and if unused then you should close it. You can easily do this by going through Launchpad> Mission Control> Dashboard> Click “-‘’ button and then “X” button for the widgets that are of no use. You can add the widgets as well if you delete them by mistake.
