E-Connecta has launched the SkyFi high-speed internet service at the Accra Technical University.

The service which was launched on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 offers a lot of development opportunities in Ghana.


Mr. Kobina Richardson, Acting CEO of E-Connecta commenting on the facility said with the World heading to the internet of days, an increasing number of individuals, businesses and institutions are going to find it more challenging to cope without access to a good and a reliable internet.

According to him, even though internet usage has created a plethora of opportunities, the Ghanaian user still lacks innovation needed to take advantage of the potentials and technological benefits available.

He said the WiFi Hotspot service SkyFi has been designed and deployed to provide very cheap and reliable internet access to the Ghanaian consumer to improve their standard of living.

“We hope to offer high speed Wi-Fi services with an integrated payment system (mobile money, card payment etc) to ensure access to all.

“We commend the government on such an initiative and we hope to see more of such mutually beneficial partnerships in the future to advance Ghana’s economic development,” he added.


Launching the new Internet Service, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Communication commended E-Connnecta and SkyFi for the innovative idea to help Ghanaians, especially, students to beef up with their research work on campus.

He said Government is committed to collaborate with internet service providers to offer high-speed internet at very affordable prices and good quality for the benefit of everybody irrespective of their location.

Mr. Boamah added that bandwidth in Ghana has become less expensive as more service providers enter the market to offer competitive rates to customers.

He added that E-Connecta saw the opportunity with NITA (Government of Ghana) as a huge step to a plan they have been nurturing for years.


Dignitaries present at the launch include, Governing Council Chairman and Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon E. T. Mensah, George Atta-Boateng – Director General, NITA, Rector of Accra Technical University and Heads of Department.

The first Phase of the internet service covers the following areas;

  • Accra Technical University
  • Tema Lorry Station
  • Airport
  • Burma Camp
  • Korle-Bu
  • University of Professional Studies
  • Makola
  • Osu
  • 37 Military Hospital and Lorry Station
  • University of Development Studies (Tamale)

Skyfi Wi-Fi service will extend its coverage to other parts of the country with an increased focus on tertiary institutions.
