Samsung last November teased us their first foldable smartphone. And yesterday, the company officially launched the Galaxy Fold at its Unpacked event in San Francisco. The Samsung Galaxy Fold with all its special features is slated to be available from April 26 – earlier than some expected.
The starting price hangs from $1,980, that is, a whooping ₵10,098 for a mobile phone.
“We are giving you a device that doesn’t just define a new category, it defies category”, says Samsung’s SVP, Justin Denison. He continued that the Galaxy Fold is “a one of a kind luxury device with immersive visuals”, which offers “a truly next-generation experience.”

Well, let’s see some major feature of the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
Special features of the Samsung Galaxy Fold
Open-up screen
The Galaxy Fold opens like a book — opens outwards and folds inwards. It is a 4.6-inch smartphone but when opened, it is a 7.3-inch tablet.
The main display is QXGA+ resolution (4.2:3), and when it’s folded, it is switched to the smaller 4.6-inch HD+ (12:9) display.
Camera
In addition, Galaxy Fold also has the hole-punch style of selfie camera.
It comes with 6 cameras. At the rear side, it holds a triple camera system: a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera.
There are two cameras on the inside (or say for tablet mode), then one on the front (when it’s folded). This makes sure that you can take photos however the phone is held in whether tablet or phone mode.
3 apps at a once
The really cool feature of the phone is this. The Galaxy Fold will be really fun to use. It has the ability to run up to 3 apps all at once, all on the screen, side by side.
Platform & memories
Fold will come running on Android 9 (Pie). It possesses a 512GB internal storage which uses Universal Flash Storage 3.0 technology for fast speeds. Also, Fold runs on Qualcomm 7nm octa-core processor, alongside a 12 GB of RAM.
Battery
On the battery side, the Galaxy Fold actually has two in-built batteries. The batteries are separated by the fold but in the Android system, they are combined to show 4380 mAh.
No iris scanner
Because of the hole-punch (or cut-out) camera, Samsung had to ditch the iris scanner feature introduced from the Galaxy S8. The company to placed the fingerprint scanner on the right side of the phone. Samsung claims its fingerprint scanner provides a close level of security as the iris scanner, adding that it is even more convenient to use than a scanner at the back.
