You used to spend more hours at work or school and less time at home, but all that has changed. The pandemic has forced everyone to remain indoors but this instantly means you will be spending more time with your PC, movies, fridge and so on. Therefore, if you do not want a high light bill at the end of all this, you must act fast.
1. Work on your gadgets: If you are not aware, a desktop and monitor can use four times more energy to operate than a laptop. Always try as much as possible to go to “sleep” after ten or fifteen minutes of inactivity. Also, ensure all chargers are unplugged because energy monsters like laptop and smartphone chargers use energy even when they are charging nothing.
2. Tweak your appliances & lighting: Simply use energy-saving settings on refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, and clothes dryers to minimize the power used. A hot shower needs a lot of energy too, so just reduce the water heater temperature to 120 degrees and that would help your bill.

3. Adjust your heating and cooling devices: Turning your thermostat higher or lower than required will not heat or cool a room quicker, but it definitely makes your heater work harder. When you are around, set your thermostat to 68 degrees. When you sleep or step out, set it to 10 degrees lower. If you did not know, every degree you lower saves some percent of your heating bill and saving some money is key at this time.
