MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunication company in the country took to social media to express their excitement over another milestone. Today, MTN Ghana has over 15 million subscribers on its network; thanks to loyal customers like you.
newsghana.com.gh reports that: Speaking at the launching ceremony of MTN’s 15 Millionth Customer celebration day in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana Mr Twum Asante , noted that the Telecommunications Company which started operations in Ghana in 2006, inherited about 2.5 million customers.
This he said, as a result they moved from a subscriber base of 2.5 million in 2006 to 4 million by the end of 2007.
“December 2009 we had doubled that number to 8million subscribers. Two years later in 2011 we achieved the 10 millionth subscribers milestone. We reached 12 million in March 2013 and today we are happy to celebrate our 15 million subscribers” , he stated.
According to him, MTN recognizes its role in making the right investments to support the ever changing demands of its customers .
This he said, company has continuously invested in expanding and modernizing its network.
“Total investment from 2006 till date are over US$2.5 billion. With a robust 2G and 3G network, three state -of – art data centers, the West African Cable System (WACS) and over 4,500 KM of fiber, MTN continues to deliver extensive , reliable, fast voice and data services to Ghanaians”, he added.
More so, he noted that the recent quality of service monitoring results on data services released by the National Communications Authority (NCA) is the evidence of the level of investments they have made in network.
Additionally , MTN also passed all quality of services tests conducted by the NCA from January 2014 to date on voice.
“As a business , we proud to have been responsible for being the first in innovating several new initiatives in Ghana. These include being the first in the following:
First to introduce GSM technology- First to launch BlackBerry Service 2008- First to introduce 3G Commercial service 2009- First to Launch Mobile Money 2009- First in Africa to introduce Blade Cluster Technology- First to Telco in Ghana to launch a Foundation for CSR 2007-First to build an Ultra- Modern Switching and Data center 2010- First indigenous African company to sponsor the world cup 2010(MTN Group). Leading tax paper and the adjudged best Tax payer in Ghana in 2014” , he disclosed.
Adding that, MTN is focused on giving back to its communities.
This he said, the Foundation’s sustained CSR investments have resulted in 102 major projects since 2007 with an investment of over GHS 21 million and Impacted more than three million people directly and indirectly.
“As we launch the celebration of our 15 million subscribers milestone , we are embarking on a campaign to say thank you to all our stakeholders , especially our customers, whose contributions and commitment have made MTN Ghana’s network of choice”, Mr Asante stressed.
