Let’s admit it — a Netflix account is a great thing to have. It has some of the best movies, TV shows, and documentaries you can imagine. And if you’re that one who likes to entertain visitors with some screen time, you can’t go wrong with Netflix. It’s the ‘in thing’.
However, in view of the recent price hike or some other personal reason, you may be considering doing away with the service for a while, if not permanently — to save some cash. Whatever your reasons, here’s what to do if cancelling your Netflix subscription is what you want to get done.
Cancelling your subscription
To cancel your streaming subscription, log in to the Netflix app, alternatively, you can use your web browser. At the top right corner, there’s the account icon. Click on that (icon) and select ‘Account‘.
Find the ‘Membership & Billing’ section. There you’ll see a ‘Cancel Membership‘ button. Clicking that button would take you to a new page where you’d be given the option to either downgrade your current plan or simply cancel your membership.

If want to save money and have no intention of losing access to the platform, you can downgrade your account to a Standard Definition plan to make some cash savings.
However, if you simply want out, just go ahead and click on the ‘Finish Cancellation’ button to stop your subscription. Even after cancelling your Netflix subscription, you’ll continue to have access to your account until your current billing period comes to an end.
Subscribers with Netflix gift cards or promotional balance in their account, at the time of cancellation, will still be able to continue streaming until the balance runs out.
You can reactivate your account within 10 months after the cancellation. You only need to resubscribe to the service and your profile and account details and viewing preferences will be reinstated.
Cancelling the free trial
Chances are that you may have gone in for a month’s free trial of Netflix after which you decided not to go ahead and get a paid subscription. You can use the exact process outlined previously to cancel the trial.
Well, that’s that. Now you know what to do if you decide you’d rather chill without Netflix. Enjoy!
