Nigerians set for another SIM card registration exercise in 2020:
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami has given a directive to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) once again. This time around, it is meant to review the SIM card registration and usage policy in order to rectify some of its current challenges.
The review is meant to further improve safety with the use of SIM cards while decreasing the crimes that are committed with them. With this new development, there are fresh regulations to adhere to.
For citizens registering new SIM cards, it will need to be through National Identity Number (NIN) while foreigners will do the same with their passports. Existing users have to update their details with their NINs before the 1st of December, 2020.
