Nigeria to overtake South Africa in pay-TV subscription:

A fresh report has revealed that the number of pay-TV subscribers in Nigeria will surpass that of South Africa in 2020. The continent’s pay-TV market is about to develop significantly in the next 6 years, growing from 30.7 million presently to over 47 million before 2026, as per a report by Digital TV Research.

Principal analyst at Digital TV Research, Simon Murray, had this to say, “Despite the strong subscriber growth, competition is intense. Prices and average revenues per unit are falling as rivals fight to gain subscribers.”

The report also said StarTimes/StarSat will grow the most, increasing from 9.1 million subs at the end of last year to 16.39 million by 2025.
