The Covid-19 virus came in unleashing havoc on all sectors of business and commerce, as well as day-to-day activities — all over the world. While some sectors have taken a significant hit — due to the virus — some operators in the telecommunications industry are posting profits as demand for digital services shot up since the virus became a global concern.
This was revealed during MTN Ghana’s 2nd Annual Shareholders Meeting — a virtual event — on August 13, 2020.

Telcos cash in as demand for digital services shoot up

With lots of corporations giving their staff the option to work remotely and the need for video conferencing apps and software to enable one to participate in meetings remotely, people became a lot more reliant on internet data to stay in touch.
Aside from that, the fear of getting infected with the Covid-19 virus from handling cash naturally pushed consumers to opt for MTN Mobile Money (MTN MoMo) as well as other digital payment platforms in completing financial transactions.
