Between 14th to 22nd June 2019, gamers in both Kumasi and Accra will be eying to have a share in the GHS 24,000 that will be up for grabs at the 2019 edition of the MTN iFest Conquest event.

MTN Ghana is organising the MTN iFest Conquest with support from PopOut, Invent LLC and Virtual Union. The event is divided into two phases with the first phase taking place in Kumasi between the 14th and 15th June 2019, and the second phase taking place in Accra between 21st and 22nd June 2019.

Earlier this year, MTN Ghana launched its Internet Festival, dubbed: “iFest” in Accra to educate customers on the relevance of using the internet to enhance their everyday lives. The iFest Conquest is thus a part of MTN Ghana’s plans of celebrating its customers in a year which has been declared a “year of the customer”.

JBKlutse.com understands that gamers will battle it out in a FIFA 19 strict tactical defending mode and a Mortal Kombat 11 contest.

The winner for the FIFA 19 competition will be awarded GH₵ 4,000 while the first and second runner up will receive GHS 2,000 and GHS 1,000 respectively in addition to some souvenirs and TurboNet. With the Mortal Kombat contest, the winner will take home GHS 2,000 while the first runner up will take home GHS 1,000. The second and third runner ups will be rewarded equally with GHS 500 each. The prize distribution is the same for the editions in both Kumasi and Accra.

Looking ahead to the event, JBKlutse’s Papa Kayson caught up with, Kobina M. Ewusie-Mensah, President of Virtual Union, to get his view on the big event.

“I expect it to be very competitive, although the announcement on our plan to enforce standard rule sets such as “strictly tactical defending came in late” for FIFA19,” he indicated. “But we are committed to making deliberate efforts that will stimulate the eSports scene and move it in the right direction.”

“I genuinely believe that this is a bold step by MTN, and it looks like we are on the verge of fully understanding what it means to use eSports as a revenue driver.  MTN has made a very bold surge into the broadband internet market with their Turbonet, and I believe eSports will be very instrumental in promoting it,” he added.
