Submission of entries for Season 5 of the MTN Heroes of Change, will be closed on the 18th of January 2019 — the MTN Ghana Foundation has announced.
Once submission closes, shortlisted projects will be authenticated and pruned at different stages of review to 100 and then to 40 — out of which the final 10 would be selected.
“We want to honor and showcase the work of the many unsung heroes in the communities, who are usually not recognized for their work. So we want the public to nominate ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities.” – Samuel Koranteng, Corporate Services Executive, MTN
The filmed stories of the top 10 finalists will be featured in a 13-week television show prior to the grand finale event where winners of the various categories will be announced.

A cash prize of GHC100,000 awaits the ultimate winner, while category winners would be awarded with GHC30,000 each — for investment into their projects to widen their impact. The remaining six heroes will have their projects supported with GHC10,000 each.
For this new season, the special category introduced in Season 4 has been revised to include youth advocates. Winners in this category will receive citations and monetary awards to invest in any Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of their choice.
Since July 2013 when the first season of MTN Heroes of Change took place, a total of forty people have received recognition on the platform for their commitment in using their personal resources to brighten lives and improve their communities.
Out of that number, four people; Dr. Abrokwa-Yenkyera, founder of Grafts Foundation; Madam Paulina Opei, founder of the Save Our Lives Orphanage; Genevieve Basigha and Naomi Esi Amoah, both from Blessed Home Orphanage, have emerged as the ultimate winners of the various seasons.
The program itself has been recognized with several awards including the 2016 IPR Best Community Relations Programme of the Year, as well as the CSR Program of the Year 2015 — by the Head of State Awards (HoSA) Scheme.
