15 Frequently Asked Questions about MTN 4G LTE service

MTN 4G LTE

MTN 4G LTE;

There are three 4G LTE service providers in the country and they are all Internet Service Providers (ISPs). MTN Ghana  is the  4th but the first Mobile Telecom service provider to start a 4G LTE service.

15. What is LTE

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a 4G wireless broadband technology developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
The 3GPP engineers named the technology Long Term Evolution” because it represents the next step (4G) in a progression from GSM, a 2G standard, and 3G technologies based upon GSM.

LTE provides significantly increased peak data rates, with the potential for 100 Mbps downstream and 30 Mbps upstream. It typically offer between four to ten times the performance of “3G” networks.

14. What is 4G?

4G is the collective term for the fourth generation of data technology for cellular networks, following 2G and 3G, the second and third generations. 4G typically offers between five and ten times the performance of 3G, with faster download speeds and better overall data performance.

13. How fast is 4G?

4G speed and performance vary depending on the type of device being used, the location of the user in relation to the distance from the LTE site, coverage in the area and the number of people using the service at the same time. 4G offers download and upload speeds several times faster than 3G. It is designed to deliver five to 10 times the speed of 3G data speed, and enables subscribers to access data up to 10 times faster on devices such as phones, tablets, laptops and desktops. For subscribers, using 4G means websites load much quicker, and provides the ability to stream videos and podcasts without first waiting for them to buffer. Using 4G also means users can download large email attachments or other content from the Internet faster. Applications that need to download data, such as Yahoo maps, YouTube and Netflix, will work more smoothly and quickly. It means a music file that would have taken 20 minutes to download on a 3G phone could take about three minutes, and a 10-minute video clip that might have taken several minutes to download on 3G could take about 35 seconds to download on 4G.
