A lot of Windows 10 PCs come with Windows Defender already installed and running in the background. This helps to keep viruses or malware at bay for as long as possible. However, to be on the safer side, it is best to also scan your PC for potential threats from time to time, and here’s how to do it.
To ensure your computer is free from viruses and malware, an antivirus program is needed. Activate Windows Defender and run an offline scan to help clean up the system.

How to scan your PC with Windows Defender

  1. Access Windows Settings. Tap the start button and then the gear icon.
  2. Tap “Update & Security.”
  3. Right there, you will know if your computer has available updates under “Windows Update.”
  4. Choose “Windows Security” and then tap the button way up on the page labelled “Open Windows Security.”
  5. Choose “Virus & threat protection.”
