The International Center for Strategic Alliances (ICSA) has given GTBank “Best Digital Bank of the Year” award for the bank using financial tech innovations to provide its customers smooth and easy financial services.

Formally the Guaranty Trust Bank Ghana Limited, GTBank has solidified its leadership stance when it comes to tech in financial services. Thus, the recognition from the ICSA seems apt.

The bank was given the sought-after “Best Digital Bank of the Year” award at the recent Digital Innovation & Excellence Awards held in Accra.

The ICSA gave the award to GTBank in recognition of the bank’s ground-breaking methods of introducing innovative digital solutions and electronic channels for its customers. These innovative digital financial solutions employed by the bank has allowed customers and non-customers of the bank to seamlessly use its services without limits.

The bank’s Divisional Head of Digital Banking, Leopold Armah, received the award on behalf of the Bank. He remarked that the bank was “delighted by this latest award as it speaks to our relentless effort to provide our customers and the general public easy and convenient means to bank anywhere, anytime without stepping in a banking hall”.

The initiatives that earned GTBank “Best Digital Bank”

The services that made GTBank Best Digital Bank include USSD banking via *737#, MyGhPay, Internet Banking, and other services.

The USSD banking feature allows existing customers to use the bank’s financial services right from their mobile devices. This innovation does not need any mobile app. Customers just have to dial *737# to start using it.

Non-customers can also use the *737# code to start an account and join the GTBank family. They can also transfer funds and make payments using the shortcode without having to go to the bank.

MyGhPay is an online platform as well as a mobile app which also enables every Ghanaian to send funds, pay for utility bills, school fees, etc. This platform is also connected to the individual’s mobile money wallet and debit cards. Thus, it works at any given time.

For the Internet Banking feature, it is for the bank’s customers to do financial transactions from the internet. Customers can also manage their accounts online with the secure Internet Banking feature. The feature was introduced to make banking as simple and personal as possible for customers.

The Head of Digital Banking, Leopold Armah continued that, “Since their introduction, our bank *737#, Myghpay, Internet banking, and other electronic channels have proven to be real game-changers. For instance Bank *737# which enables every Ghanaian to open an account, transfer funds and make payments has become one of the leading drivers of financial inclusion in the country.”

The Myghpay platform allows customers and non-customers alike to transfer funds, pay for bills, utilities, school fees, port services among others with their MoMo wallets and debit cards around the clock at no charge. These solutions and others have truly positioned GTBank as the leader in digital and electronic banking in Ghana and enabled us to make banking truly simple for everyone,” Armah added.

The International Center for Strategic Alliances schemed the Digital Innovation & Excellence Awards to recognise and award entities with outstanding achievements and contributions towards the digital transformation of the banking, financial services, and insurance sector.

Thus, GTBank getting the Best Digital Bank of the Year fits it as the bank has become a globally acknowledged organisation for tech-infused financial innovations that serve both customers and non-customers.
