The MOBEX Africa Innovation Awards was organised to appreciate organisations and people who are transforming their societies through tech innovations and creativity.
From the Business of Tomorrow Category, Huawei’s 5G innovation was adjudged as the winner for the Most Innovative Service Provider. The company has established 11 5G R&D centres around the world and has utilised more than 5700 5G R&D experts and engineers to advance the future of the 5G revolution. Also, Huawei has announced its first 5G device, which is the Huawei Mate 20 X (5G).
The Chinese tech also got the Best Company with Innovation in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Huawei was given this award for its global flagship innovative CSR program —the Huawei Seeds for the Future initiative. This very program has been given several recognitions in Ghana since the company incepted it back in 2015.
Seeds for the Future CSR program seeks to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, and promote a greater understanding of and interest in the latest innovative technologies.
It offers brilliant university students the opportunity of visiting the Huawei Labs in China to learn and improve regional building and participation in the digital community. So far 60 students from Ghana have been beneficiaries of this program.
The third award for Huawei was the Innovation in Customer Service award. It was for the company’s customer-centric core value.
The Huawei P30 Pro won the last award, which is the Mobile Device of the Year. This smartphone comes with 4 rear cameras (including an ultra-wide angle and 50x zoom capabilities), 32MP selfie camera, and 4,200mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge technology.
Tommy Zhou, the Managing Director for Huawei Ghana, speaking at the event said the company appreciates “the awards as it shows that our efforts are being recognised,” and “Huawei will continue to bring innovative technologies and solutions to better improve the lives of Ghanaians.”
“The quest to provide customers with high-quality products and services is endless and as such Huawei is determined to bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected and intelligent world.
“We will continue to play an active role in driving Ghana’s ICT sector development as we grow and collaborate with our partners lead the innovation drive to lead Ghana into the era of the 4th industrial revolution of all things connected.”
The Mobex Africa Innovation Awards (MIA) is a scheme specifically designed to acknowledge the efforts and appreciate the innovation, excellence, and creativity of individuals and organisations that are trying to positively affect the lives of people through technology. As well people who solve socio-economic problems with the deployment of ICT skills and knowledge are also awarded.
The scheme is to help encourage the creative, technical, and professional progress of solving societal issues.
