Google unveiled Shoelace last year to aid people who wish to get together in real life. Sadly, the social network will not make it past the experimental stage as the tech company recently announced that it will be shutting down on the 12th of May.
According to Engadget, Shoelace was created for anyone searching for group activities with other locals who share identical interests. For instance, a group of people interested in music and wish to meet up for a studio session or anyone searching for buddies to see a movie with.

According to Google, the application was affected by the coronavirus outbreak because the pandemic has made it difficult to continue investing in the project. Google added that there are no plans to bring Shoelace back in the nearest future and all data associated with the service will be gone after the 12th of May.
