The Government of Ghana, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has extended the validity period of passports to be issued to qualified Ghanaian citizens by five (5) years. This means that from 31st March 2019, all new passports issued will be valid for 10 years and not 5 years as it is, currently.
In a letter dated 6th February 2019, to the Heads of all Missions, the Foreign Affairs Ministry made it clear that processing fees would remain the same until further notice.
This comes as a relief to business persons and students, especially, whose busy schedules may not allow them to go through the oftentimes protracted process to get their passports renewed in time.
In a related development, the new Passport Application Centre at the Accra Digital Centre is open and fully operating as part of the government’s efforts to decentralize the passport application process. In line with this, new centres will be opened in all regional capitals in order to make it easier for Ghanaian citizens to acquire passports without having to travel across regions to Accra.
