Early last month, we announced that Seedstars World, a global startup incubator, is touring Africa for startups. The 2019 Africa Tour was to select and help startups that come to pitch their business models at the Seedstars startup competition.
Having finished in Kenya and choosing a winner, Seedstars Worlds came to hold the Ghana version with the help of Stanbic Business Incubator Ghana, who hosted the event, in Accra.
At the end of Ghana’s leg of the Seedstars World startup competition event, a fintech startup called Nvoicia was adjudged the winner.
With this win, the fintech startup has cemented a spot for itself at Seedstars World global final competition. The next competition will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland in April of next year. That’s the next task for the Ghanaian fintech startup Nvoicia.
There, Nvoicia will compete with other startups selected from all over the world to win the USD 500,000 in equity investment. This is the next Ghanaian startup after Cowtribe, an agri-insurance platform, to follow in the same footsteps.
The winning fintech startup Nvoicia is a portfolio company of Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST). It deals with financing solutions for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Nvoicia helps get access to working capital loans for small businesses with unpaid invoices.
Nine startups were selected to compete and pitch their businesses in front of a local jury panel at the event held at SB Incubator. Nvoicia coming first was followed by the second winner, TechShelta, an agri-tech startup.
Seedstars World selects national winners from all over the world, including around 30 African countries, and brings them together at the annual Seedstars Summit in Switzerland to compete for the equity investment and a host of other prizes.
The Ghana event was done in collaboration with Stanbic Business Incubator Ghana, the main sponsor. Stanbic has been the local partner to Seedstars since 2015.
