Farmcrowdy launches Farmgate Africa agro-trading platform

Nigerian agritech startup, Farmcrowdy Group (FCG), has launched a new subsidiary, Farmgate Africa, an agro-trading market place. The new Farmgate platform is an agro-trading platform for farmers and buyers of agriculture commodities in Africa.

Co-Founder & Managing Director of Farmgate Africa (FGA), Kenneth Obiajulu, is leading this innovation. The platform is to build a bridge the gap between rural farmers and processors. With this platform, buyers will have the opportunity to directly buy farm produce from the farming clusters themselves.

The aim of the Farmgate Africa platform is to build relationships between major processors and local farmers. The platform aims to do this by collecting the commodities while paying attention to the key specifications given by the buyers.

DO YOU KNOW these 3 things about social media marketing?

Farmgate’s co-founder and Managing Director, Kenneth Obiajulu, said the platform eliminates middlemen so the farmer and the processor get more close to each other.

Our business model is one that brings the farmers closer to the processors by eliminating several layers of intermediaries. By doing this, Farmgate optimizes market access to African farmers and also improves their income by at least 30%.

The Founder and CEO of Farmcrowdy Group, Onyeka Akumah, said the mother company, Farmcrowdy, expects a lot of from the new sub company. He continued that Farmgate Africa is a response to the loads of feedbacks the startup has had from its customers.

Launching Farmgate Africa gives us huge joy with the expectations placed on us to continue to innovate and build new solutions driven by technology to finance agriculture. We have received a lot of feedback from farmers and major agro buyers who need to fund market access to agro-commodities but are constantly held back because the market place is unstructured. Farmgate Africa is our response to this need.”

Farmgate Africa allows individuals to use the platform too. The process is funded by individuals who buy and sell what the farmers have harvested already. Farmgate believes their platform will give every farmer that has produced high-quality farm commodities, the opportunity to sell to major buyers.
