As you already know, there are no ads on WhatsApp right now. However, that might change next year as Facebook, its parent company, is looking at ways to ease in targeted advertising from next year amid the current unification of its messaging applications.
According to Pocket-Lint, its advert-free status was not always the case as ads existed before Mark Zuckerberg bought the app 6 years ago. During that time, users were allowed to pay a token for advert-free use among other useful options.
Moreover, even if Facebook has always said that it intends to let WhatsApp remain an ad-free platform, the world is changing. Ads look like they are making a huge comeback and as per recent reports, Facebook is currently looking to identify linked phone numbers between Facebook and Whatsapp accounts for the presentation of targeted ads in the nearest future.
