The custom coil manufacturing process is a challenging one because the manufacturing process hugely depends on the requirements of the customers. In order to fulfill the preferences of the customers, the designers now focus on providing different types of custom-made micro-coils. Thus, manufacturers mainly consider three factors such as cost, reliability, and electrical efficiency of the micro-coils. Micro-coils have several usages in several areas ranging from solar panels to medical equipment and therefore, manufacturers greatly focus on the quality of the micro-coils. The custom coil manufacturing process involves casting, wrapping, soldering, gluing, etc., and the manufacturing company needs to have the required expertise and equipment, and tools for preparing finished products. This article focuses on describing the manufacturing process and applications of micro-coils, and the criteria that a manufacturing company must possess to prepare the micro-coils.

Manufacturing Process

The micro-coils are made by the isolated wires through the winding process around a core. In modern days, some customers demand coreless coils, and in this case, manufacturers withdraw the cores after the completion of the winding process. In vein insertion, coreless micro coils have significant usages. Depending on the winding numbers, the thickness of the cores can differ. The manufacturing companies need to have special expertise and machinery so that the coils do not reach the isolation breakpoint of the wire.

Due to its conductive property, copper material is hugely used in the manufacturing of micro coils. The manufacturers also use several other materials in the manufacturing process of the micro-coils depending on the requirements of the customers such as stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and titanium alloys, high purity precious metals such as gold and platinum. In order to prepare miniature micro-coils, the manufacturing of ultra-fine wires is essential. In order to connect two ultra-fine wires of similar or different diameters, many modern manufacturing companies use thermal compression bonding technology. Above all, it is important to take care of the efficiency of the micro-coils and need to focus on cost-effective mass production.

Micro-coils have several usages in several fields. For instance, in the preparation of pain management devices, and in monitoring, and controlling of pacemakers, micro coils have a significant role. In the preparation of electricity-based ablations such as microwave and RF micro coils and in electrophysiology treatments, micro-coils are essential components. Using pulsed electromagnets, micro-coils have crucial usages in orthopedic and dental treatments. Micro-coils also have significant usages in the preparation of the navigation and orientation sensors and the miniature sensor implants for wireless communication.

The criteria that a manufacturing company must possess

There are several criteria that a manufacturing company must possess in order to conduct an effective custom coil manufacturing process.

  • Firstly, the company must have high-notch technological equipment.
  • There should be professional and experienced employees with great efficiency of work in the manufacturing of micro-coils.
  • The manufacturing company must develop unique type winding coils and assure the quality of the micro-coils.
  • The manufacturing company should have the ability to fulfill high orders through mass production.

These are the main criteria that a manufacturing company should have. However, in order to fulfill the needs of miniature coils, the manufacturers must consider innovation.
