The new Vehicle Registration System (VRS) announced to be launched by the Driver and Vehicles License Authority (DVLA) this year is now operational.
The new system has one particular problem to rectify. There have been some incidents where two or more vehicles would be having the same license plates. This is one of the many problems the new VRS is going to solve.
In a statement, the Authority said the VRS, which had been piloted for some months earlier, “is billed to completely digitise and automate the vehicle registration process which hitherto has primarily been a manual process with significant challenges. The Vehicle Registration System is expected to streamline the registration process, prevent leakages and eliminate any potential duplications.”
The statement added that the DVLA is looking into the problem of duplicate license: “The Authority has commissioned a vigorous investigation into this matter and will inform the public as soon as the initial investigations are completed.”
