The Internet presents an array of opportunities for its users but for us in Ghana, this comes at a cost that is not favourable to many.
Let me simply say it is not cheap to use 3G or 4G LTE internet in Ghana and it doesn’t even last for long.
One would have expected that with the high cost of Internet, the service should be equally as good as the money but unfortunately, that is not the case. This is a topic for another day.
DataBank, an android app developed by Emmanuel Nyantakyi, a 15-year old Ghanaian out of frustration for how quickly his mobile data runs out after each top-up.

I understand his frustration because for a Junior High school graduate recharging after few days from the last recharge won’t be funny, even if you are not the one paying.
DataBank was created to help you manage and monitor your internet data usage more efficiently.
The app helps you to set a limit on your data usage. You will be able to see live updates on how your data is your apps are consuming. Once you reach the data usage limit set, DataBank automatically turns off your mobile data and wifi.
It was so scary monitoring how much data I spent per second using the app.
However, whiles using the app it was able turn-off my wifi but my mobile data was still active. I will follow up with the developer to get more information on this error.
Although most Android smartphones come with a pre-stalled data management utility having a dedicated app with friendly user interface and push notifications on data usage alerts comes in handy.
