For a while now I have been closely following the whole conversation about the Uber service coming to Accra. Somewhere in the 3rd quarter of 2015 there were even rumors that the transport service will launch in Accra, it never came to pass but it seems that is going to be reality now.
What is an Uber
Uber is an American multinational online transportation network headquartered in San Francisco,California. It develops, markets and operates the Uber mobile app, which allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request which is then routed to Uber drivers who use their own cars.
In other words Uber’s innovative platform connects drivers with riders (passengers) in real-time, at the touch of a button, at a reasonable price, safe and reliable way.
Stats as of May 19, 2016, indicates that the service is available in over 60 countries and 449 cities worldwide.
In Africa Uber is available 5 countries and 11 cities including Abuja, Durban, Nairobi, Cape Town and others.
And now it seems Accra, Ghana is about to join the growing list of African cities with an Uber presence.
