Ride-hailing service Bolt (formerly known as Taxify) is now extending its services to the second largest city in Ghana — Kumasi. The company rebranded its name in the first quarter of this year.
Bolt has been operating in Accra, the capital for two years now. It now seeks to open up its operations. According to the company, this is part of a long term plan of offering affordable and safe travels to Ghanaians.
The Regional Manager West Africa, Uche Okafor, said the service’s basic charge is to provide easy, quick and reliable transport in urban places. And the company has done its best to give riders in Accra affordable service so it’s time to spread the good news.
“At Bolt, our primary mission is to make urban transportation easier, quicker and more reliable. So far, we have been able to bring Bolt’s affordable and reliable service to people in Accra. Now, we’re embarking on an expansion course across Ghana and Kumasi given its vibrant population and infrastructure is ripe for Bolt’s entry.”

As an extra layer of security, passengers can use the “share your ETA” function on the app to share their trip details. Payments of trips can be done with debit cards or cash.
As a new service in Kumasi, Bolt is giving out a discount of 20% on all fares. Passengers can also enjoy free rides up to 15 cedis. To enjoy these goodies, you have to use the promo code “BOLTGH”.
Trips around popular locations in Kumasi like Bantama to Ashtown and Suntreso is supposed to cost 5 and 7 cedis, respectively. From KNUST to Kumasi Mall also averages at 10 cedis.
For the drivers, there’s also something to enjoy. Bolt drivers take an 85% share of all fares. As a driver, you can also list how many hours you can drive. You can also choose to work in any area at all. And there are no monthly fees!
Bolt drivers’ requirements in Kumasi
For a driver to enjoy these goodies, you’d have to be qualified for these requirements. The car must be a 2003 or newer model. The vehicle must also be a four-door car. And it must have passed a safety inspection.
This is to ensure that Bolt passengers enjoy safe and reliable travels.
Drivers should be of 25 years old or above. He/she must have a valid Ghanaian driver’s license, proof of insurance, roadworthy certificate.
The driver should have a smartphone that has GPS ability, either Android or iOS. Finally, you must undergo a training program.
