Apple has delayed release of new AirPods to the market. There were even rumours that they were going to debut upgraded versions in September or October. But it never came. Finally, Apple’s updated AirPods are coming to hit the market in early 2019, says reports.
There are also rumours that the device might have a completely new design for 2020.
9to5Mac cited the new report from Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst. Kuo suggests that the demand for the AirPods will go up in the years coming. Kuo also predicts that the new models will have “wireless charging support”.
The new AirPods models might come with upgraded Bluetooth specs, an upgraded hinge on the case. Kuo says also adds that some internal components will be a bit more expensive. These potential changes line up with the previous rumours about the device.
There’s also rumours that a new set of AirPods that will be water proof with drop in 2019. These new set of high-end AirPods will come with noise cancellation.
Ming-Chi Kuo also notes that there will be an “all new design” for the 2020 AirPods. With this, he doesn’t go into details. There isn’t any mention of the Airpower wireless charging mat.
The Apple analyst also makes an interesting prediction. He says the AirPods are Apple’s most popular accessory ever. And there will be high demand for the device in the coming years. He calculates that Apple will jump from selling 16 million (2017) to more than 100 million by 2021.
