Origgin Limited’s E-prepaid mobile app is helping change the way we purchase electricity credit for smart meters within the capital, Accra. Traditionally, one needs to physically be at a vendor’s outlet to make top ups.
However, with this platform, consumers get to buy credit for their meters directly from their smartphones, and in the comfort of their homes, offices, or whatever place they may be at any given moment.
Founded in September 2010 by two friends, Kane and Desmond, while both were in the university, Origgin is a leading technology company run by a team of seasoned and experienced business executives with the company’s mission being to become a publicly traded multi-billion dollar company with a global footprint providing innovative products, services and solutions to businesses and people worldwide.

The E-Prepaid app service is only compatible with smart meters, meaning card using prepaid and postpaid meters are excluded. Also, it’s currently serving only meters within Osu, Legon, Ridge, Madina, Dodowa, Airport Residential Area, and Accra New Town environs and it is only available on the Android OS platform, as the iOS version is yet to be released.
Have you ever experienced the frustration of having to join queues to purchase electricity credit while you’re running out of time for other important things you need to attend to? Or being forced to sleep in darkness when your electricity credits run out at odd hours of the night?
Not forgetting how you’ll sometimes get to the vending outlet only to realize the seller did not open for business that day.
These have become a problem most customers have been forced to get accustomed to, since the introduction of prepaid credit. As this problem grew bigger over the years, Origgin resolved to use technology in solving this problem, hence their development of E-Prepaid.
To use the E-prepaid app, users simply download E-PREPAID from the Google Play Store, sign up, and enter the 8 or 9-digit meter number, the amount of purchase and the name registered to the smart meter and pay through MTN mobile money. Instantly, you’ll have your meter topped up whatever the time of day.
The app also allows you to request your credit balance as well as the meter consumption. There’s also API integration for third parties such as banks, so as to enable smart purchases to be made off their platforms.
