In 2017, Evan Spiegel was the youngest billionaire in the world.
He was 26 at the time and had an estimated net worth of $2.1 billion. He is the co-founder of the popular application and CEO of Snapchat and there is a lot more you must know about him.
Let’s find out in our list of 7 things you did not know about Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel:
1. Rihanna reduced his networth
Publicity moves can make or break you. For Evan, things did not pan out as planned.
In March, last year, an advertisement on Snapchat asked users a massively offensive question – “Would you rather punch Chris Brown or slap Rihanna?”
This question was all about Chris Breezy’s abuse of his then bae, Riri. Rihanna responded to the advertisement by asking her fans to delete the application, and as expected, they obeyed.
Snapchat paid dearly for it and Evan’s net worth reduced by almost $150 million in about 2 days.
2. Kylie Jenner reduced his market value
Another celeb that affected Evan’s bottom line was the popular model and businesswoman, Kylie Jenner.
In February last year, Kylie tweeted that she stopped using the app and huge followers followed her lead and got rid of Snapchat from their smartphones and other devices as well. The next day, Snapchat’s parent shares reduced by 7.2%, and that was about $1.3 billion in market value.
Chrissy Teigen left too around that time. Her words on her exit were, “The update, the constant complaints of people not being able to find me, plus the Rihanna poll… no bueno.”
3. He married a model
Evan Spiegel is married to Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr.
The pair started dating 4 years ago and had their wedding in 2017.
Evan proposed in a weird way though. Reports have it that he got down on one knee and said, “Miranda, I’m telling you now, this is the first and last time I’m going to kneel down in front of you.”
4. He met his fellow Snapchat co-founders at a frat
After the previous weird proposal, you should not be surprised that Evan Spiegel met his Snapchat co-founders at a fraternity.
Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown were frat brothers and students at Stanford, and Evan Spiegel was the fraternity’s social chair.
After their success, they disclosed that they were not so popular during their frat days. Bobby said, “We weren’t cool, so we tried to build things to be cool.”
5. He lived with his dad after Snapchat
Even after Evan founded Snapchat and it became a massive success, he still lived with his dad for some years. His words on that were, “The rent is cheap.”
His dad was not a poor man though. So Evan must’ve been happy to just chill in his father’s home while he worked on building his Snapchat empire.
November 2014 was when he relocated to his own apartment. It was a lovely three bedroom home in Brentwood that cost $3.3 million.
6. He almost dated Taylor Swift
In December, 6 years ago, Taylor and Evan met at a December 31st party. They were seen in each other’s company for a while, but like every man Taylor gets involved with, it did not last too long.
It was revealed that Evan was not ready to give her the attention she demanded so he decided to move on. Snapchat was his priority so he was not willing to share the focus he devoted to it.
7. He did not really graduate
Evan Spiegel walked across the stage at the graduation ceremony for Stanford University in June 2012, and his mum and dad showed up to take photos.
But what they did not know was that their boy did not graduate.
He was some credit short of the graduation requirement for his degree, but Stanford felt he would soon finish so they let him participate in the walk.
